West Brom considering summer move for Luton defender James Bree

West Brom are considering a move for Luton Town full-back James Bree as Steve Bruce looks to bolster his defence, according to reports by the Express & Star

Albion are in the market for a player to compete with the only recognised senior right-back in the squad, Darnell Furlong moving forward.

The 24-year-old impressed in the Championship in the 2021/22 term, notching seven-goal involvements in 42 appearances for Nathan Jones’ side as they reached the play-offs.

Bree’s versatility is another of his strengths with the Englishman also capable of playing at left-back.

With his contract up at Luton after two years at the club, the Baggies can bring the free agent to the Hawthorns for free.

No brainer.

Bree was one of the main players who led Luton’s unsuccessful promotion push during the 2021/22 campaign and that is certainly something that Bruce can use in his squad next season.

The former Newcastle boss needs players who have experience competing to get promoted before and the quality to go and do it again and the right-back has that in abundance.

Being able to bring him in for free is an absolute no brainer considering not only how good he is now but the likelihood of him developing into an even better player with him only being 24.

The right side of defence was a huge problem last term with Furlong being the only recognised player who could play the position – leaving him relatively unlikely to be dropped which led to some very lacklustre performances at times.

Albion struggled in his absence too which makes having another player in that position extremely important and Bruce looks to achieve promotion a second time around.
