West Brom in pole position to sign Derby County captain Tom Lawrence

West Brom are reportedly in pole position to secure the services of Derby County forward Tom Lawrence this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, the Rams failed to convince to keep their captain at the club after manager Wayne Rooney announced his departure on Friday, June 24.

Sheffield United, Watford and Rangers are also understood to be keen on signing him but the Baggies are currently favourites to land his services.

Worth signing?

The Baggies desperately need a striker after Andy Carroll decided to leave the club and they’ve identified Lawrence as an option.

The 28-year-old has decent experience of playing in the Championship and has the know-how of finding the back of the net in the second tier.

With the signings the Baggies are making, he knows that they’re contenders for promotion and if a top-flight club doesn’t come in for him, this could be his best chance of making the Premier League.

He is their captain so will come to the Hawthorns with important leadership skills and Steve Bruce would definitely like to have his personality at the club.

However, they will need to act quickly as the other clubs keen aren’t going to go down without a fight.

Free agents are often the quickest to join new clubs as there are representatives constantly in touch with them to discuss terms.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies are set to battle Manchester United to sign an exit-bound Premier League goalkeeper this summer.
