Ron Gourlay: West Brom must surround Grady Diangana with quality
West Brom chief Ron Gourlay has suggested that Grady Diangana is the type of player who will thrive when he’s surrounded by other quality players.
Diangana only managed two goals and one assist in 41 Championship matches last season.
The 24-year-old has not hit the heights expected of him after his move from West Ham United in 2020.

However, Gourlay believes surrounding the attacker with quality will aid him going forward.
Gourlay said [quoted by Birmingham Live 5 July]: “Sometimes you have players who need more quality around them, to unlock.
“He can see things, he can do things, but if others around you don’t see it and do it at the same time.
“Put him in with quality, and his decision making, somebody like Swifty is very creative.
“He’s the kind of player who can make passes without looking up.”
Big season ahead
The upcoming season will be huge for Diangana going forward.
The 24-year-old had so much promise whilst at West Ham but has really struggled to make a significant impact at The Hawthorns since his move in 2020.
The attacker is still young so could still make an impact for Steve Bruce’s side and he will be hoping the Baggies continue to add much-needed attacking quality to their ranks in the coming months.

Jed Wallace and John Swift are real statements of intent by the club hierarchy, but it is crucial that the club don’t ease off on the transfer front.
The Baggies could still do with some defensive additions, as well as adding a clinical striker to their ranks in the coming weeks.
Diangana certainly has the ability to be a real gamechanger for the Baggies in the 2022/23 campaign.
Let’s hope West Brom continue their excellent early business in order for the 24-year-old to thrive at The Hawthorns next season.
