Ben Foster trains at West Brom training ground as he seeks next club

Ben Foster is training with West Brom as he looks to find himself a new club after leaving Watford at the end of last season, according to Elias Burke.

Writing via his personal Twitter account on Thursday morning (7 July), The Athletic journalist reported that Foster, 39, is keeping himself in shape at West Brom’s training ground, where he’s training alongside Boaz Myhill and Albion’s youth goalkeepers.

it is understood that while the Baggies are helping Foster out by allowing him to use their facilities, the Black Country club is not in the hunt to sign a new goalkeeper.

Good gesture

For all the good that Foster did in his spell at West Brom, the least the club can do for him right now is to let him use their training ground as he aims to find a new home.

Foster is seen as one of the best Albion goalkeepers in recent history having made 223 appearances in all competitions for the Black Country club between 2011 and 2018.

He was responsible for a high number of incredible performances that helped the Baggies keep themselves in the top-flight for as long as they did.

Sam Johnstone didn’t exactly fill Foster’s boots with fans failing to warm to the now-Crystal Palace goalkeeper in his time at The Hawthorns.

West Brom

And next season, it looks as though David Button and Alex Palmer will be competing for the number one spot.

It remains to be seen how either of them will perform but Button, 33, has a lot of experience at this level, earning 183 Championship appearances across spells at Doncaster, Barnsley, Charlton, Brentford, Fulham and the Baggies.

Palmer, on the other hand, is less experienced but has been highly rated at The Hawthorns for some time.

We wouldn’t be against the idea of having Foster back because he’d probably do a better job than those we’ve got.

But, as Burke says, Steve Bruce isn’t interested in signing a new goalkeeper this summer with it seeming as though funds will be allocated towards strengthening outfield positions instead.

In other West Brom news, Albion are also in advanced talks to sign another new player at The Hawthorns this summer.
