Jed Wallace – Every Championship club ‘took note’ of West Brom signing John Swift

Newly-signed winger Jed Wallace has revealed that the arrival of midfielder John Swift was a statement signing by West Brom.

The Baggies signed the duo on free transfers in the ongoing transfer window as their deals expired at Millwall and Reading, respectively.

Wallace was quoted in a report by Express & Star where he stated the signing of Swift was something which grabbed the attention of all the rival clubs.

“I’ll be honest, the signing of Swifty (John Swift) was a huge show of intent and another reason why I wanted to join,” he said. “I think everyone in the Championship probably sat up and took note at that point.

“You only have to look at the squad, the track record of the club and the manager now to see the ambition.

“The addition of Swifty as well made it a no-brainer. I wanted to have the best chance to play in the Premier League and with this group of players and this manager, I think I’ve got a great chance.”

Brilliant business

West Brom couldn’t have asked for two better free transfers in this market. Both Swift and Wallace have different roles and they improve two different areas on the pitch.

Swift will bring compactness in midfield whereas Wallace will entertain the West Brom crowd with his eye for the goal.

Many fans believe that the players in the Championship usually don’t have the capacity to turn up for the biggest games.

However, the truth is that Mason Mount, Kalvin Phillips and Conor Coady have all come from the Championship and they are now stars of their respective teams.

Swift and Wallace have all the potential to be involved in the same bracket even though they are not as young as the trio mentioned above.

Wallace has already shown at Millwall what kind of an attacking player he is where in the 2021-22 Championship season, the 28-year-old scored six goals and provided 12 assists [Whoscored].

On the other hand, Swift scored 11 goals and provided 13 assists in 38 matches in the Championship [Transfermarkt].

In other West Brom news, we are one of five teams in the hunt to sign this Premier League youngster who scored a promotion-winning goal in League Two last season.
