West Brom hold talks with Okay Yokuslu about returning to club this summer – John Percy

West Brom have held talks with former player Okay Yokuslu about a stunning return to the club, according to Telegraph journalist John Percy.

The Turkish international played for the club in the Premier League in the 2020/21 season, making 16 appearances during a loan spell under Sam Allardyce before the club were relegated.

But after Twitter rumours began about a possible return, Percy has gone back on previous reports that the club weren’t interested and has now claimed via his personal Twitter account that a deal is on, although it’s not done yet.

“[West Brom] are in talks with former midfielder Okay Yokuslu, who is a free agent after leaving Celta Vigo. Talks have been positive so far and there is growing optimism that this one will happen.”

Yokuslu’s contract with La Liga club Celta Vigo expired at the start of the month, and he is now a free agent.

Huge

Yokuslu made a huge impression on Albion fans during his first spell at the club, with Sam Allardyce even comparing him to Real Madrid’s legendary duo Fernando Hierro and Ivan Campo.

The club are desperate to bolster the team and make a real push for promotion under Steve Bruce, who struggled last season with a squad that wasn’t his own.

After already bringing in John Swift and Jed Wallace on free transfers this summer, it’s clear funds are low and that the club are scouring the market for some cheap additions.

Yokuslu has plenty of top level experience, and fits the bill as a budget option and makes perfect sense as well as getting fans behind the club too.

It’s a huge coup for the club and one they have gone about doing quietly, with reports as recently as this morning claiming there was no interest in the player whatsoever from West Brom.
