West Brom: Championship captain shares thoughts on Callum Robinson potential transfer
Preston North End captain Alan Browne is surprised that West Brom forward Callum Robinson has been linked to the Lilywhites in recent weeks.
It has been reported by the Express and Star (7 July) that the Lancashire side are eyeing a move for the 27-year-old striker.
However, Browne is surprised that his side have been linked with a player of Robinson’s calibre.
Browne told LancsLive on Thursday 21 July: “I would love to see him back, to be honest, but I am not sure what the case is.
“You never know what will happen; I’ve obviously seen all the stuff on Twitter but I don’t know if it means too much.
“I was surprised when he was getting linked with us, to be honest because I thought he would play at West Brom.”
It seems a big risk to let Robinson leave The Hawthorns this summer with Steve Bruce hardly blessed with a plethora of striker options at present.
A loan agreement would be the worst possible scenario for West Brom.
If the Baggies could offload the forward on a permanent agreement then it would allow for Bruce to use any potential transfer fee to improve his squad.
With his contract running until the summer of 2025, the Baggies are in a strong position to hold on to the 27-year-old or generate a large fee for his services.
Robinson managed 16 goal involvements in the Championship in the 2021/22 season and will be extremely tough to replace for the club hierarchy should he leave The Hawthorns.
If he does depart it is likely that Bruce will have a replacement lined up ready to add some firepower to the Baggies attack.
Bruce has pulled off some good business in the free agent market so far, only time will tell if the shoestrings will be loosened to allow the West Brom manager to splash a bit of cash in the market.
