West Brom: Callum Robinson transfer stalemate could accelerate this week
An eventful start to the Championship season could have caused a shift in the transfer saga involving West Brom attacker Callum Robinson.
Preston North End are the main club chasing the Republic of Ireland international’s signature this summer, according to the Express and Star, and they now have a further problem to deal with at striker.
During the Lilywhites’ 0-0 draw away at Wigan Athletic on Saturday (30 July), Ched Evans launched into a horrible tackle on a Tics defender and was rightfully sent straight to the dressing room to a chorus of boos from the DW Stadium.
As a result, he is set to miss the next three Championship games and Preston manager Ryan Lowe indicated after the game that the pursuit of a striker may intensify this week.
“Well we could do with getting another striker lined up ASAP now Ched is going to miss three games,” Lowe said, as quoted by Lancashire Live. “We are patiently waiting; we’re fine. We will have to wait, won’t we? We could certainly do with another one, we know that.”
Whether Robinson is still the main man on the Deepdale radar is only known to them but West Brom would prefer a permanent sale if they can get it while Preston would lean towards a loan deal.
The absence of the 27-year-old away at Middlesbrough said a lot about where Steve Bruce sees his future and this upcoming week could be defining in the transfer talks with Evans out of action for three matches.
Lowe won’t want to wait for too long at all anymore having danced a delicate dance with the Baggies but when the second game of the season comes around, a decision may have been made, one way or another.
