West Brom: Okay Yokuslu 'in contention' for Watford contest

New West Brom signing Okay Yokuslu could potentially make his second Albion debut on Monday (8 August) night at home to Watford.

The Turkish international missed the Baggies’ 1-1 draw away at Middlesbrough on the opening weekend of the new Championship season having only just arrived from Celta Vigo in Spain.

But after plenty of work on the training pitch, West Brom manager Steve Bruce reckons that the 28-year-old could be good to go for the visit of the Hornets.

“That was the plan. The way he’s trained this week, he’s certainly put himself in contention for Monday as well,” Bruce said, as quoted by the Express and Star.

Last season’s top scorer, Karlan Grant, meanwhile has a slight knock after the stalemate at Boro but he too should be fine to take on Paul Heckingbottom’s side.

“We’ve got a couple of knocks, one to Granty but we think he’s going to be okay. (Callum) Robinson trains tomorrow, he’s trained all week.,” he said.

Sturdy

Every great team is built upon a resolute defence and that doesn’t just include the back four and the man between the sticks.

Defensive midfielders are perhaps even more important to a team’s defensive stability than the out-and-out defenders are because they have the crucial job of trying to stop their colleagues behind them from having to do anything.

Bruce has a handy pair to pick from in that department with the bulldog-esque club captain Jake Livermore also on the cards to start at The Hawthorns on Monday night.

He and Yokuslu together would prove a very difficult block to find a way past and that would in turn allow the license for attackers and full-backs to go on and have no fear of a counter-attack when they go forward.

The Turk’s return would probably see Jayson Molumby drop to the bench with John Swift impressing on his Albion debut with the equalising goal at the Riverside.

In other West Brom news, the pursuit of this goalkeeper may have been put on hold as a significant Premier League exit occurs.
