Reyes Cleary completes dramatic U-turn to sign new West Brom contract until 2024

Reyes Cleary has agreed a new West Brom contract until 2024, completing a dramatic u-turn after initially being expected to leave this summer.

The 18-year-old dropped a goodbye message on his Instagram back in May, as his contract expired at The Hawthorns with interest from Premier League and European clubs.

But with his developmental deal running until December he opted to stay until then, and now has been convinced to ink a new deal to stay for a further 18 months and continue his development the club announced.

Cleary scored 35 goals in all competitions last season across the youth teams for Albion, and is incredibly highly-rated at the club.

He’s now set to push for a place in Steve Bruce’s first-team squad for the upcoming campaign, although he will remain patient for his opportunity after seeing his future develop so quickly.

West Brom have had a really good transfer window with bringing in John Swift, Jed Wallace and Okay Yokuslu on free transfers, but this could end up being the best bit of business this summer.

Cleary is without a doubt the best prospect in the academy currently and has consistently shone at a level above what he has played.

A first-team opportunity is more than deserved at this point, but it won’t be handed out easily by Bruce who has established an experienced squad to push for promotion.

A loan may be the ideal option for all parties to get him playing regular football to continue his development, before returning to The Hawthorns to really push for a place in the first-team.

After losing several academy stars to rivals in recent years, this is a major coup for the hierarchy of the club to tie a talent like Cleary down for a few more years and hopefully it continues in that manner going forward.
