West Brom must make The Hawthorns their fortress in battle for promotion

West Brom are set to face Watford in their second fixture of the Championship 2022-23 season at The Hawthorns on Monday.

The Baggies had a decent beginning where they managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Middlesborough in the season opener.

Talking before the match, manager Steve Bruce explained that the fixture, just like the previous match, will be an extremely tough one.

“We knew Middlesbrough away was going to be difficult and now we have the early favourites in Watford,” he said.

“It’s always good to play your first home game. It’s the dawn of a new season and everyone is really excited.”

The fortress

In every sport, playing with your home advantage is nothing less than amazing because thousands supporting the team and players give them an extra lift to generate some amazing results.

Last year, the Baggies turned their home venue into a fortress where they managed to secure 44 points out of the 23 matches, joint third-highest in the league alongside Sheffield Utd and Middlesbrough.

It was their form away from home which proved to be a difference-maker as the side failed to secure a place in the top six.

Last year, two out of the three teams who got promoted—Fulham and Bournemouth—managed the highest number of points while playing at home (46), which shows the value of using your home advantage to good effect [FootballCritic].

Therefore, it is imperative that Bruce must pay more attention on ensuring that the Baggies must secure the maximum number of points which would ease their route back to the Premier League.
