West Brom: Steve Bruce allows Kenneth Zohore to search for new club
West Brom will finally allow Danish striker Kenneth Zohore to leave The Hawthorns this summer if he can find a new club to play for.
The 28-year-old joined the Baggies in the summer of 2019 for a transfer fee of £8million but over the past three seasons, he has played just 23 games in all competitions.
He did have a brief spell on loan at Millwall but his constant injury problems have seen him drift out of favour at Albion and manager Steve Bruce now wants him to find himself a new club.
“I think it’s fair to say that he probably needs to move on, and find a new home,” the manager said, as quoted by the Express and Star. “It’s not gone well for him here. He’s come through pre-season, he’s got a tiny niggle but he’s OK.”
“Yeah he’s trained, he’s gone to Portugal and he’s tried everything he can to get himself right. For his sake, and everybody else’s sake, he just needs to find a new home. He needs to kick-start his career again, that’s what he needs.”
There won’t have been many transfers in the long history of West Brom that will go down as a failure as big as this one and there will be relief around The Hawthorns when Zohore leaves.
The Dane arrived in the Midlands after a really good spell at Cardiff City where he was able to bully Championship defenders but he never showed that in the navy and white stripes.
Much of that was down to constant injuries that ruled him out of the majority of games but on those rare occasions he did get to play, you hardly noticed he was on the pitch.
Daryl Dike’s January arrival has effectively taken any place in the squad away from Zohore so the only logical solution is for him to leave the club as soon as possible.
It could well be the last time the Dane gets a big move given his age and injury record and West Brom may well be hoping for a reasonable transfer fee to recoup some of the £8million they spent on him.
