West Brom must learn from Kenneth Zohore disastrous time at The Hawthorns
Steve Bruce has revealed that he is open to letting striker Kenneth Zohore leave West Brom in the ongoing transfer window.
The 28-year-old has been linked with a move away from the club in the summer as he enters the final 12 months of his contract with the club.
Bruce, while talking to Birmingham Live, suggested that Zohore will be better off looking for other options to rejuvenate his career.
“It’s a struggle for Ken,” he said. “He’s got a bit of a tight groin at the minute. We don’t think it’s anything serious but he’s back on the pitch on Friday. It’s unfortunately an ongoing saga.
“I think it’s fair to say that he probably needs to move on, and find a new home. It’s not gone well for him here. He’s come through pre-season, he’s got a tiny niggle but he’s okay.”
Not good enough
Zohore’s career at The Hawthorns has been nothing short of a disaster ever since he joined the club in the summer of 2019 on a permanent deal worth of £8 million.
Since then, the Kopenhagen-born has represented the Baggies in just 23 matches across all competitions where he has managed to score five times and provided a solitary assist [Transfermarkt].
Those numbers are not going to be good enough for any player to survive in a club like West Brom where the ambition is to not only secure a place in the Premier League but to also keep their spot in the top-tier of English football.
It is also important for Bruce to ensure that the 28-year-old will leave the club as soon as possible as that not only will create space for more arrivals before the end of the transfer window but also create a healthy environment in the squad without a player who does not feel wanted by the club.
His departure will also be a lesson for the Baggies who must only invest in players who fit the football model played by the manager instead of looking at his numbers in different competitions.
