West Brom winger Jed Wallace stuns Sky Sports pundit and Sun journalist with actions against Watford

West Brom attacker Jed Wallace had Andy Hinchcliffe and Alan Nixon in awe of his ability on one sequence in the first half against Watford.

The former Millwall man swung in a beauty of a cross in the 19th-minute as the Baggies looked to react to Ismaila Sarr’s stunning opener.

Out wide on the right the summer signing found Karlan Grant with a perfect ball into the box, but the Albion striker stuck out the wrong leg and could only divert it wide when it looked a certain equaliser.

Sun reporter Nixon commented on his personal Twitter account, writing: “Jed Wallace has Premier League delivery in his boots”.

Speaking live on the Sky Sports match coverage on Monday night (8 August, 8.22pm), Hinchcliffe said of the sequence: “Oh the ball from Jed Wallace is an absolute peach. Karlan Grant just has to let this ball come across his body and strike it with his left instep. He’s goes with his right foot.

“It’s another glorious opportunity. The ball in couldn’t be any better for a striker, and for me he just goes at it with is wrong foot”.

Super signing

Wallace is already proving to be the kind of marquee free transfer signing that Steve Bruce hoped for, and having brought him in despite financial constraints he has to be pleased with his work in the market.

The Baggies spent the first half all over the visitors from Vicarage Road, with only some profligacy from Grant and outstanding goalkeeping from Daniel Bachmann kept them from registering a hatful of goals.

Very little can be done to prevent the kind of eye-catching strike that Sarr launched in from inside his own half, especially against the run of play.

West Brom

Apart from the finishing there wasn’t a huge amount that Bruce could be unhappy about, so he should have plenty of hope that his side can get a result come full time.

After providing the assist for John Swift in the draw with Middlesbrough, Wallace is shaping up to be a star in this Baggies team, and is injecting some of the invention that was so often missing last season.

If he can continue in this vein there should be plenty for fans to cheer this season, as long as the forwards can finish his crosses off.

If Daryl Dike could stay fit it would certainly help in that regard.

In other West Brom news, one Albion striker has left the club on loan as he looks to get back on track after a wretched time with injury.
