West Brom: Alan Nixon ‘amazed’ Tom Rogic still available on free transfer

West Brom are closing in on the free signing of former Celtic midfielder Tom Rogic and Alan Nixon can’t believe he hasn’t gone somewhere sooner.

The 29-year-old was released by the Hoops at the end of last season having helped Ange Pstecoglu’s side regain the Scottish Premiership title from Old Firm rivals Rangers.

But he has spent all summer without a club and the Australian international is still available for anybody to sign should they want to.

West Brom are seemingly leading the race to sign him with Football League World reporting on 9 September that terms have been agreed between the club and the player’s entourage which would leave just a medical and signature to complete the deal.

When asked whether he thought it was a good deal for the Baggies on Twitter, Nixon said: “Good player when fit … amazed he hasn’t found a home.”

Experience

They often say you can’t buy experience but Steve Bruce doesn’t need to because Rogic is on his way for nothing and he will be delighted about that.

There is not a player in the West Brom squad that will have won as many trophies as Rogic who has multiple of every winner’s medal Scottish football has to offer.

West Brom

That winning mentality is what has been badly lacking from the Albion squad ever since they were unceremoniously relegated from the Premier League in the COVID-19 affected 2020-21 campaign.

Last season’s slump to mid-table obscurity in the second tier was a huge mental battle for many within The Hawthorns and they have needed a pick-me-up.

The arrival of a player as decorated and talented as Rogic is exactly what the doctor ordered at exactly the right time and West Brom are massively getting away with it in signing him for nothing long after the transfer window has closed.

In other West Brom news, while Rogic is almost over the line, the Baggies may not be done in the free transfer market with more additions eyed by Bruce.
