West Brom have immediate recall option on Josh Griffiths
West Brom have got an “immediate” recall option on young goalkeeper Josh Griffiths according to Birmingham Live journalist Joe Chapman.
The Baggies allowed 21-year-old Griffiths to leave The Hawthorns on loan in the summer, as he made the move to Fratton Park to line up for Portsmouth in League One.
After keeping five clean sheets in ten appearances for Pompey, Griffiths has earned a call up to Lee Carsley’s England Under-21s squad for the upcoming international break and it’s been shared that the Baggies have the option to bring him back at any time should they wish.
Writing on his personal Twitter account, journalist Chapman responded to a fan question about if West Brom could bring him back from his loan early and he made an exciting revelation.
“Griffiths has an immediate loan recall Andy – they can do so at any time – but Taylor/Kipre/Mowatt etc will be January recalls at the earliest,” he said.
Bring him back
West Brom are sitting in 20th place in the Championship after just one win in nine games and David Button has really failed to make an impact as the number one following Sam Johnstone’s departure.
Steve Bruce showed loyalty to a long-time number two and gave him an opportunity, but he has made several errors and just doesn’t exude confidence to the rest of the team and the defence.
Having proven that he isn’t good enough, the club can quickly start working towards a solution by bringing in Griffiths and allowing him the opportunity to grow into the role and stake his claim.
With five clean sheets in ten games in the division below he’s clearly got a great base to build from, and he’ll be sitting behind a stronger team with better defenders too and it could be a real coming of age with the club able to secure a top goalkeeper’s formative years.
If the club are keen to change their fortunes around, they should look to make big changes and that could start with bringing Griffiths back to the club and into the mix.
