Karlan Grant horror show as Okay Yokuslu shines – West Brom player ratings v Blackpool

West Brom finally recorded a win at The Hawthorns and kickstarted the Carlos Corberan era with a 1-0 victory over Michael Appleton’s Blackpool.

Okay Yokuslu’s late strike was enough for Corberan’s side to drag themselves off of the foot of the Championship table and record their first home win since 20 August.

Here West Brom News rates the players’ performance out of ten after their win over the Seasiders at The Hawthorns.

West Brom

Alex Palmer – 6

Had very little to do in the whole game. Distribution was good throughout the game. Positive performance from Palmer.

Dara O’Shea – 6

Pick of West Brom’s defenders, in what was a relatively easy night for the Baggies defensively. Dealt with long balls with ease and coped with CJ Hamilton’s pace in behind. Hopefully can use this performance as a platform to build off of. The only defender who looked to play forward from time to time.

Kyle Bartley – 5

For once it wasn’t a complete disaster class from Bartley but still managed to produce a daft tackle in the second half which earned him a booking. Blackpool were toothless going forward so he didn’t have too much to contend with. Didn’t look to play forward anywhere near enough.

West Brom

Darnell Furlong 5

Didn’t put a foot wrong defensively, but like the rest of the backline, was rarely troubled by a fairly quiet Blackpool front line. Didn’t overlap Phillips anywhere near enough. Considering the lack of threat in behind he should have committed himself to more attacks.

Matt Phillips 6

Really encouraging display from Phillips who was West Brom’s pick of attacking options. Looked to beat his man at every opportunity. His delivery was very good and was probably the Baggies most creative option. Let’s hope this is the start of some good form for Phillips under Coberan. Wasn’t as effective when he was played up front.

Okay Yokuslu – 8 (Man of the Match)

The man who found the vital moment for the Baggies. Kept the ball well in the first half and broke up play well for the Albion. A lot of his work goes unnoticed but another solid performance from Yokuslu on his return to the lineup. Will be vital in anything positive West Brom do this season.

West Brom

Taylor Gardner-Hickman – 6

A really mixed performance from Taylor Gardner Hickman who provided energy in the middle of the park, as well as looking to pass forward as much as possible. Lost the ball a couple of times whilst in possession, but another learning curve for the youngster in the centre of midfield. Gave away a couple of cheap fouls as well.

Conor Townsend – 5

Quiet night from Townsend, who, much like Furlong, wasn’t eager to get forward too often. Was caught out of position a couple of times, with CJ Hamilton and substitute Theo Corbeanu exploiting the left-back in behind. Another player who needs to be more positive.

Jed Wallace – 4

Wallace started the game really brightly and looked to be on the way to another standout performance but his second-half display was uncharacteristic. Wallace made the wrong decision far too often and was rightfully hooked off.

West Brom

John Swift – 5

Swift improved in the second half but he has struggled to come to life in a West Brom shirt since his summer arrival. Didn’t look to pass forward enough and make things happen and was dispossessed too often. Set-piece delivery was really poor. Failed to score an excellent chance in the 62nd minute. However, he grew into the game and looked like an attacking threat in the latter stages.

Karlan Grant – 2

Looks completely shot for confidence in front of goal at the moment and is reluctant to make clever off-the-ball movements. Should have done better with a first-half chance when through on goal. A frustrating moment in the first half where he was reluctant to be an option for Wallace to pass to.

Grady Diangana (on for Wallace, 59′) 5

Brandon Thomas-Asante (on for Phillips, 83′) – 5

Jayson Molumby (on for Gardner-Hickman, 76′) 4
