West Brom face Karlan Grant injury concern ahead of QPR clash

West Brom could be without four players for their trip to Queen’s Park Rangers with Karlan Grant the latest man to be sidelined, according to Birmingham Live.

The 25-year-old was forced off in the second half of the Baggies’ Championship victory over Blackpool and left The Hawthorns on crutches (Birmingham Live, 3 November) after suffering a kick to his ankle.

Albion are also without Semi Ajayi, Daryl Dike and Kean Bryan who are all recovering from longer-term injury layoffs.

Good timing

Considering Grant’s form at the moment, it’s not the worst time for the striker to be out of the starting eleven for the Baggies. He was jeered off by The Hawthorns faithful on Tuesday (1 November) and has really struggled to hit the goalscoring trail this season.

Against the Tangerines, he looked shot for confidence and was reluctant to make runs off the ball to get into better goalscoring positions. Brandon Thomas-Asante doesn’t have the same quality as Grant but at least he’s energetic and looking to make runs in behind as much as he can.

It’s never nice to hear a player sarcastically cheered off the pitch, but Grant was the player who bore the brunt of the fans’ frustration. When a team isn’t at its free-flowing best all fans want is a bit of fight, desire and effort and sadly Grant failed to produce that.

His absence could well open the door for Thomas-Asante to be given a chance from the outset, after a number of substitute appearances for the Baggies.

He’s clearly still a raw talent, but if given more minutes there’s a chance he could adapt to the level.
