Athletic journalist shares major injury update on West Brom players that missed Sunderland clash

West Brom duo Kyle Bartley and Semi Ajayi reportedly missed the game against Sunderland due to injury.

According to Athletic journalist Elias Burke, Ajayi was expected to make the squad after recovering from one injury but sustained a shoulder setback which kept him out.

Bartley’s injury also is understood to be minor and he should be back in action sooner rather than later.

Via Twitter, Burke wrote, “Jake Livermore not injured; Corberan wanted Kelly on the bench with Ajayi and Bartley out injured. Bartley not expected to be out for long; Ajayi fully recovered from original injury but now nursing a shoulder problem.”

Bad luck

Carlos Corberan would’ve liked to have had a full squad ready to choose from on Monday night.

Before the break, his side had picked up some crucial form, winning three games on the spin, and were unlucky to see domestic football coming to a halt.

However, Ajayi or Bartley did not feature at the World Cup so to see them still being injured is just bad luck for the Baggies boss.

He’s got a massive job on his hands this season and he should not write off finishing in the play-off positions unless it’s not mathematically possible.

He does have a good first-team squad at his disposal and the board should back him in January with at least a couple of new signings.

We’re hoping that Corberan continues to play football the right way and fans will undoubtedly back him right until the end if he and the players show the same level of effort and desire.
