West Brom interest in Nathaniel Chalobah is wide of the mark – Lewis Cox

Fulham midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah is “unavailable” and his reported move to West Brom is wide of the mark, according to Express and Star journalist Lewis Cox.

Evening Standard journalist Nizaar Kinsella reported on 27 January that the Baggies are looking to sign him on an 18-month deal.

However, the Express & Star (transfer live blog, 10:52, 27 January) reported that the Baggies are not in the race to sign the former Chelsea “utility” player.

“Nathaniel Chalobah has been of interest to West Brom this month but I’m told this [morning] he is unavailable and reports he is set for The Hawthorns are wide of mark,” wrote Cox on Twitter.

Unlikely

Well, that was quick.

For a moment it gave the fans some hope that there could be at least one new addition this month.

Carlos Corberan has done a terrific job at the club since taking over, and he needs a bit of help in the transfer market.

The Baggies are looking to solidify their push into the play-off positions, but it is unlikely Corberan will be given funds to sign players.

West Brom

The club itself has taken loans to meet the costs on a daily basis.

Chalobah would be a decent signing though. He has got plenty of Championship experience, and he would add physicality and technical quality to the side.

He has had four separate loan stints over his career and has won promotion twice with both Watford and Fulham.

However, it doesn’t seem like West Brom will make any move for him this month, and those transfer talks are wide of the mark.

In other West Brom news, this striker has been spotted at Birmingham New Street ahead of joining the Baggies.
