West Brom transfer news as update drops on Lewis O’Brien move

West Brom are eyeing up some last-minute January transfer business, with a loan move for Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewin O’Brien high on the agenda, according to the Express and Star.

The report claims the Albion are looking at making two signings before the window shuts with budget restrictions biting head coach Carlos Corberan.

Corberan confessed that he is working closely with West Brom CEO Ron Gourlay to fix the problems that they see emerging in this Baggies squad.

“We as a club are still working on this. Unfortunately, we couldn’t fix the needs before,” said Corberan as quoted by the Express and Star. (30 January)

“But still we have time to fix the needs and cover what we need to cover, what we understand – me, with my club, with Ron (Gourlay), with Ian (Pearce) – what we have to cover.

“We still have the days to fix the points we need to fix.

“Of course, in my mind, I had one idea to improve the team. But after the situation with (Matt) Phillips of course we have lost one player probably till the end of the season and it’s something we need to fix.”

Better late than never.

So it looks like the Baggies will be doing some January transfer business after all, something that was prompted by the injury to Matty Phillips.

Phillips has been a key part of Corberan’s starting XI since the Spaniard took over the reigns from Steve Bruce and a serious quad injury means he’ll miss a majority of the campaign now.

Exits at the club may fund some moves whether this is to gain some transfer funds or to free up some room on the Baggies wage bill.

Martin Kelly is mentioned in the report above with the defender only featuring seven times for the Albion so far this season.

O’Brien would definitely bring some quality with him to The Hawthorns and would be a solid addition to this promotion-chasing Albion squad.

Whether or not Corberan will get his man before the window shuts remains to be seen, West Brom have left things quite late here.

In other West Brom news, this striker has been spotted at Birmingham New Street ahead of joining the Baggies.
