Sky Sports pundit delivers West Brom promotion verdict after Grady Diangana and Matt Phillips injury news emerges

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Kevin Campbell believes that losing Grady Diangana and Matt Phillips through injury puts a significant dent on the promotion hopes of West Brom.

Express & Star [20 March] quoted Carlos Corberan saying that the first-team duo will not be returning until the end of the season.

Diangana was forced off the pitch during the 2-0 win against Middlesbrough at the Hawthorns on 25 February and has not returned to action yet.

Phillips has already undergone surgery after he picked up what looked like a quad muscle injury in the 4-0 FA Cup win over Chesterfield in January.

When asked how this will affect the Baggies’ push for promotion, Campbell a Sky Sports pundit, exclusively told West Brom News, “It’s a big blow, a big blow.

“They are two very important players. But, they’ve got a very good squad, they’ve got a big squad so somebody else has to be able to step up.

“Look where they’ve come from. They’ve come from near the bottom all the way into contention [for the play-offs].

“I think these are the moments where the big players stand up.”

The Baggies had momentum on their side before the international break and it’s now on Corberan to ensure that heads are still in the game.

They face Millwall next on 1 April and Rotherham six days later – two teams that are at different ends of the table.

Millwall are in completion with the Baggies to finish in the top six while Rotherham are battling for their lives to avoid relegation.

In other West Brom news, a defender may never feature for the club again after what happened and may even leave for free.
