Tony Brown rages at ‘farcical’ Josh Griffiths incident live on BBC Radio WM in West Brom draw v QPR
West Brom legend Tony Brown was left enraged at Josh Griffiths’ “farcical” error in his former club’s disappointing 2-2 draw against QPR on Monday [10 April].
The Baggies blew a two-goal lead in a crucial encounter with relegation-threatened QPR on Monday afternoon, damaging their chances of a potential playoff place at the end of the season.
The result leaves West Brom currently sitting five points off sixth-placed Blackburn Rovers in the Championship table thanks to a costly error from the young goalkeeper after his lacklustre attempted clearance ricocheted into the net off Chris Martin handing the struggling West Londoners the share of the spoils.
And Brown, speaking on BBC Radio WM after the game [10 April, 11m:31sec] could not hide his disbelief at Griffiths’ mistake.
He said: “The second goal was farcical, wasn’t it? You’re playing about, you’re winning and you’re playing it back to your keeper in that situation, you know and the forward closes you down, you know, he takes a chance you end up giving the equaliser away.
“Farcical goal and it cost us, cost Albion big time that has!”
New low
After such a promising run around the turn of the year, Corberan’s Baggies have disappointingly bowed out of the Championship playoff race with a whimper, despite being just five points apart from sixth place.
Corberan’s side was at one point one of the bookies’ favourites to gain promotion to the Premier League, but because of their terrible form and injury plight right now, those ambitions look increasingly bleak and they’ve now hit a new low, especially with the club undergoing a tough financial predicament too.

When you’re up against a relegation candidate who are fighting for their lives, you simply cannot make such costly errors especially when you’ve been 2-0 up and Brown is absolutely right in his assessment of the goal West Brom gave away.
Certainly, the Baggies still sit just five points away from Blackburn in sixth place which means there’s still some last-chance saloon for Corberan and his men but given his depleted squad and their lack of confidence right now, the Albion are hardly favourites to cause a playoff stir in the next few weeks. A tough ask.
In other West Brom news, the Baggies have sent scouts to track an in-demand defender who’s set to leave as they begin planning for the summer transfer window.
