Could have been useful
With West Brom desperately on the prowl for some midfield reinforcements and some leadership, and experience in the team following the departure of Jake Livermore and Dara O’Shea, this news on Powell comes as a real blow.
The former Manchester United had proven a steady and reliable performer in the Sky Bet Championship for Stoke City and Wigan Atheltic earlier on in his career, registering 48 goals and 19 assists from almost 200 appearances in the English second division.

In fact, his decision to join Stockport County comes as a major surprise, considering he may well have helped either of West Brom or Coventry to promotion next season, and been handed another dream chance to impress in the Premier League.
Each to their own in Powell’s case but a West Brom move will have been a superb proposition for all parties involved, further adding creative quality to Carlos Corberan’s engine room. West Brom’s loss is Stockport County’s incredible gain.
