Cardiff submit loan bid to sign West Brom forward Karlan Grant

Cardiff City have reportedly turned to West Brom forward Karlan Grant as they look to bolster their attacking options, according to WalesOnline.

The Bluebirds finished the 2022/23 Championship season as the division’s second lowest-scorers.

And as reported by Cardiff City correspondent Glen Williams via WalesOnline (14 July), the club have now submitted a loan offer for Baggies’ forward Grant.

West Brom

After scoring 23 goals in 56 appearances across two years in the Premier League and Championship for Huddersfield Town, West Brom signed Grant for £15million on a six-year deal in 2020 (Sky Sports, 15 October 2020).

Now halfway through that six-year deal, Grant could be set to make a move away from The Hawthorns.

Disappointing

It did not work out for Grant during the 2022/23 campaign. The striker only managed to find the back of the net on three occasions despite playing 31 times in the Championship for Carlos Corberan’s side.

He failed to build on an impressive 2021/22 season where he scored 18 goals and provided six assists across 44 games in the Championship. Since arriving at the Hawthorns, that has been the striker’s only impressive season out of three.

During his debut season, he managed just one goal in 21 Premier League appearances. It just hasn’t quite worked out for Grant with the Baggies.

West Brom

A move elsewhere might be best for all parties involved and a loan switch could be the ideal scenario. Grant could find his feet in new surroundings and might be able to return to his parent club with some of his Huddersfield form rather than his West Brom form.

After paying such a large fee just three years ago, it would be a shame to already permanently give up on the 25-year-old.
