Grady Diangana injury update drops after second West Brom surgery
West Brom winger Grady Diangana is “progressing really well,” after a second routine surgical procedure, despite missing the main parts of the Baggies pre-season trip to St George’s Park last week, according to a report by Birmingham Live.
The 25-year-old missed the final 12 games of the Championship season and has had two surgeries but is making positive progress that has even surprised manager Carlos Corberan, as shared by Joseph Chapman
Speaking ahead of the Baggies’ first pre-season fixture against Cheltenham Town, Corberan was keen to sing the wingers’ praises saying: “Diangana is progressing really, really, really well. He didn’t take holidays, he was five days out, and he has been working with the medical staff all summer.

“He recovered very well and the consequence is that he is progressing well now. He had two weeks ago the second surgery because his injury demanded two operations – one to put something in, and one to take it out of his foot.
“In the recovery, he has reduced the timing. He has done many things, more things than we expected. The surgery, to take out what was needed, was successful and the recovery has been excellent.
“We are very surprised how quickly he has recovered, but still, I cannot tell you when to expect him back with the group. He has done everything he can do and more, his mentality has been exceptional.”
A second opportunity
Corberan has been keen to emphasise the door is not shut on anyone at the Hawthorns, with both Alex Mowatt and Cedric Kipre expected to be involved having returned from loan, and the same applies to Diangana.
Although he was out of favour towards the back end of the season, Diangana’s quality is well known to the Championship, he starred as the Baggies won promotion from England’s second tier, scoring eight times and assisting seven.

If Corberan is able to have a fully fit, and hungry and version of the 25-year-old at his disposal it will be a terrifying prospect for most defenders in the division. But that version of the former West Ham man hasn’t been seen for a number of seasons.
Alternatively, getting the winger fit will be beneficial in any attempt to move Diangana out of the Hawthorns as currently, the Championship isn’t a particularly affluent division, so few teams would be willing to pay a transfer fee for an injured player.
