West Brom ready to sell Grady Diangana amid Leeds United transfer development

West Brom want to sell forward Grady Diangana before the transfer window closes on Friday, according to Alan Nixon.

The Sun on Sunday journalist reported via Patreon on 27 August that in a bid to raise funds, Albion are willing to cash in on the 25-year-old, who hasn’t yet featured this season due to injury.

Nixon claims that Premier League side Burnley and Championship rivals Leeds United are keeping tabs on developments.

How much did Grady Diangana cost?

Too much.

Luke Dowling splashed the cash on signing Diangana permanently from West Ham in September 2020 after he initially did well on a season-long loan at The Hawthorns.

As per the Express & Star, Albion agreed to pay an up-front fee of £12million for the one-time England Under-21 international. It’s understood that due to add-ons, the overall fee could have risen to £18million to make the winger West Brom’s all-time record signing.

However, due to the fact he’s consistently struggled with injuries in his permanent spell at The Hawthorns while West Brom have mostly languished in the Championship, it’s unlikely those add-ons will have been met.

Getting rid of Diangana does, however, make sense now.

Last season, the ex-West Ham winger scored just four goals and supplied three assists in 31 Championship appearances. The majority of those direct goal contributions came in the opening six games of the campaign, too.

It would be preferable to see him join Burnley instead of Leeds due to the chance of him coming back to haunt us in a Leeds shirt but removing him from the wage bill and getting a transfer fee is no doubt a priority due to the Baggies’ scary financial position.
