West Brom quartet make EFL Championship Team of the Week with WhoScored ratings revealed

West Brom enjoyed a thrilling week in the Championship as they raced to a resounding 4-0 victory at Deepdale against Preston North End on Saturday (30 September).

Albion breezed to victory with first goals of the season for Darnell Furlong and Alex Mowatt, before Matt Phillips sealed victory just past the hour, followed by Kyle Bartley’s late fourth.

The EFL announced their Team of the Week (2 October) and included all four of the West Brom goalscorers in the XI for their exceptional performances.

Matt Phillips was given the “second-highest” rating of any player in the TOTW XI with an impressive 8.53/10, while Furlong, Mowatt and Bartley also all featured with Furlong given the “fourth highest” with WhoScored rating the full-back with 8.47/10.

Build on this

West Brom were picture-perfect in their 4-0 win over Preston at Deepdale over the weekend, providing a timely reminder to their rivals in the division that they cannot be forgotten about so soon into the season.

And all four of Furlong, Mowatt, Phillips and Bartley were all crucial to their victory and it was pretty impressive that all four players are four Corberan’s most senior stars in the team.

West Brom

Preston simply could not live with the West Brom display and the results are made all the more impressive given Preston’s form at Deepdale and their form throughout the opening eight games of the campaign.

The Baggies will be happy to find themselves up in eighth despite a somewhat inconsistent start so far this campaign, entering the midweek matchday clashes just three points shy of the playoffs.

With struggling Sheffield Wednesday to come on Tuesday, the Baggies will be expected to build on this result and performance and anything other than a win will be mightily disappointing for West Brom.

Saturday’s result against Preston won’t mean anything if they don’t follow it up, especially against the division’s current basement boys.

In other West Brom news, Corberan has explained a “crazy” decision he made against Preston.
