Revealed: Why Semi Ajayi and Conor Townsend miss out for West Brom in clash v QPR
Semi Ajayi and Conor Townsend are both set to miss out for West Brom against QPR on Tuesday (24 October) after not being included in the squad.
The Express & Star journalist Lewis Cox tweeted on Tuesday that the 29-year-old centre-back has a “minor knock” and the 30-year-old left-back is missing through illness.
It will have come as disappointing news to Albion manager Carlos Corberan as his squad is already stretched heading into the clash at the Hawthorns.
Blow
The news of Ajayi picking up a knock will no doubt be frustrating after he only just returned from injury a few weeks ago after a short spell out.
The Nigerian defender has lost his place in the starting lineup recently to Kyle Bartley, but he has still been featuring off the bench and remains an important part of the squad.
It’s a similar story for Townsend after his form has dropped off this season and he has found himself largely sitting on the bench, with Matt Phillips occupying the starting spot on the left-hand side of the defence.

The pair would, however, have been in contention for a place in the lineup this evening as Corberan would have been tempted to make changes following the quick turnaround from the 0-0 draw against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday (21 October).
The Spaniard will be hoping for his side to be more creative against QPR and that they can get back to winning ways to put them back into the promotion picture.
In other West Brom news, Corberan has revealed the club’s summer plans to sell an academy star on loan before his injury setback.
