West Brom transfer news as Leicester want to sign Tom Fellows

Leicester City and Southampton both want to sign West Brom wonder Tom Fellows from the Baggies, according to Simon Jones.

The Daily Mail journalist reported on Saturday (11 November) that Albion’s two Championship rivals are interested in the 20-year-old whose contract at The Hawthorns expires at the end of the current season.

West Brom are keen to tie Fellows down to a new contract, as he looks to officially breakthrough under Carlos Corberan after a handful of cameo appearances.

Fellows is a product of the Baggies’ academy and has impressed in limited first-team appearances this season having spent last season on loan with Crawley.

New contract needed

West Brom are currently in a situation of financial limbo as the Baggies wait to see when and if a potential takeover occurs before signing their players up to new contracts or adding to their squad in the January transfer window.

But the reported interest from two of the Championship’s biggest sides could ensure that West Brom move to tie Fellows down sooner rather than later, as both clubs are financially equipped to test Albion’s resolve and tempt the 20-year-old away from The Hawthorns.

Fellows hasn’t really got his first-team career up and running this season, but Corberan has been vocal in his praise for the winger and he has impressed during his brief Championship cameos, with his talent and ability clear to see.

Financially, both Southampton and Leicester have parachute payments on their side and the riches of the two teams could tempt Fellows into making the switch, but currently, remaining involved in Corberan’s first-team with West Brom seems the most sensible move.

Hopefully, West Brom will be able to beat off the interest and keep one of their brightest talents at The Hawthorns, but if they are forced to sell, at least a January exit would see Albion receive some transfer fee, even if nominal.
