Jayson Molumby must demand behind scenes talks with Carlos Corberan during international break, West Brom career looks done

Jayson Molumby’s career is in danger of petering out rapidly if he doesn’t take the initiative and demand talks regarding his future at West Brom immediately.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been a benchwarmer for West Brom for much of the campaign so far and he may feel his lack of minutes has certainly led to him not being picked by Stephen Kenny for the Republic of Ireland.

The Ireland international has started just three games so far in Carlos Corberan’s side, a far cry from the previous campaign where he was a crucial component for the Spaniard, making 43 appearances in the Championship, registering four goals and four assists [Transfermakt].

The 24-year-old has ruthlessly slipped down the pecking order in recent weeks, with Corberan preferring the likes of Alex Mowatt, and Nathaniel Chalobah as his rotational midfield partners alongside Okay Yokuslu.

At certain points last season, it looked as if Molumby had become the answer to West Brom’s midfield issues after some dominant and complete performances there but fast forward a few months and he’s become an unfortunate afterthought, now be resigned to brief cameos towards the end of games.

The box-to-box midfielder was linked with a summer move away during the transfer window with Leeds United reportedly interested [Alan Nixon, 18 June] but no such move materialised with Corberan having a depleted squad at his disposal.

However, given his tough situation right now both at club and international level, Molumby may feel he needs to be playing regularly to get a look in again for his national team and that may prompt crucial behind-the-scenes talks with Corberan during the international break should his lack of minutes continue.

Should it continue, it won’t be a surprise to see him beg Corberan and West Brom to allow him to leave in the January window.

The Baggies are in financial peril right now and are in desperate need of funds so a possible exit isn’t entirely far from the realms of possibility for Molumby.
