Super Computer makes new West Brom prediction in Championship

West Brom have a 44.8 per cent chance of finishing in the Championship’s top six this season, according to the Opta Supercomputer.

Before the 2023/24 EFL Championship season began, OptaAnalyst analysed 10,000 season simulations via the Opta supercomputer, and they have now revisited those predictions (21 November).

The Baggies have outperformed the number of points they were predicted to amass at this point of the season, 22.8, by collecting 26 points after 16 games.

According to the Opta Supercomputer, Carlos Corberan’s side’s chances of a playoff place have more than doubled, with an 11.8 per cent chance of finishing sixth now compared to a 5.6 per cent chance before the season started.

Right direction

If this data is anything to go by, West Brom are seemingly heading in the right direction at this moment in time. They currently sit level on points with Sunderland, who occupy sixth position in the Championship, and just five points behind in-form Leeds United who are in third.

While the Opta Supercomputer’s data reveals that the club’s chances of finishing in the top two have reduced since the beginning of the season, their playoff ambitions have improved across the board.

As well as their improved hopes of finishing sixth as detailed above, their chances of finishing fifth (5.8 per cent), fourth (5.4 per cent) and third (4.7 per cent) from the beginning of the season have all increased to 11.7 per cent, 10.1 per cent and 7.5 per cent, respectively.

For those West Brom supporters who are a fan of data, they will surely now fancy their chances of making a push for Wembley this season.
