John Percy shares possible West Brom takeover completion date as Derby County point raised

West Brom still intend to have a takeover deal concluded before the end of the year, according to John Percy.

The Telegraph reporter shared the update on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday (29 November).

Percy has close ties with West Brom, having last week been invited to the club’s training ground to interview manager Carlos Corberan.

“On potential #Wba takeover: there is definitely progress being made and a sense that something is getting closer,” Percy wrote.

“Intention is still to have a deal concluded by January (NB: Derby takeover last year was completed in 17 days).”

Uncertainty

Given there are only 32 days left of 2023 after today (29 November), West Brom will have to get a serious move on if they are to complete a takeover by the time the January transfer window opens.

That has always been the target, with the club potentially having to sell at least one player if new owners are not in place at The Hawthorns come the new year.

Percy also claimed on Wednesday (29 November) that a Nigerian group are also now in the running to purchase the club, along with a party from America, so there is still plenty of uncertainty.

Supporters only know so much about the behind-the-scenes goings on, though, and Percy is right to point out that these deals can move quickly once an agreement is reached – 17 days in the case of Derby.

Whichever group it is, everyone now has to be working towards contracts being signed over the next few weeks. If not, it is surely a question of which players will be sold come the January window, rather that if any players will be sold.

In other West Brom news, a BBC reporter has shared details on whether a fire sale is a possibility in January.
