Conor Townsend shares what West Brom players really make of takeover situation

Conor Townsend says he and his West Brom team-mates are in the dark with regards to the takeover situation at The Hawthorns.

According to The Telegraph’s John Percy [29 November], Albion are in talks with groups from Nigeria and America over buying out Guochuan Lai.

The drawn-out sale of the club has clearly not had a negative impact on the playing squad, as Albion have enjoyed a fine campaign thus far.

And Townsend, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail [4 December] has confirmed the players are ignoring the subject.

“We don’t know too much about what’s going on,” he said. “We probably know as much as you. We’ve blanked it out. We’ve got lots of games.

“It doesn’t really get into the dressing room. There hasn’t been any talk of it. I’m not too sure about what’s going on outside.”

Keep it up

There is nothing the West Brom playing and coaching staff can do, nor supporters, with regards to the takeover situation.

Full credit to the players, because if not for the positive results on the field over the past few months, the future would be looking very bleak.

Some players are out of contract and others may have to be sold as well if Lai is not ousted from The Hawthorns pronto.

There have been some positive murmurings from behind the scenes of late, but supporters will not be happy until an announcement is made.

Until that happens, let’s just hope the players can continue performing, with a response needed against Sunderland following the loss to Leicester City.

While the future is uncertain, at least supporters have this top-six battle to keep us occupied. For that, we have Carlos Corberan and his group to thank.

In other West Brom news, Adrian Goldberg has shared why he believes Albion are in a “dire position” after a recent development.
