Adrian Goldberg suggests £6m could be enough to sign any West Brom player in January transfer window

West Brom will likely accept a £6million payment for any of their players in the January transfer window, according to Adrian Goldberg.

The Baggies may be forced to cash in on a first-team player or two next month in order to bring in some much-needed funds.

Grady Diangana is among those to have been linked with a move away from The Hawthorns, and Goldberg says Albion must consider any offers.

“As every week goes by, Albion’s financial plight worsens because we’re spending more money than we’re getting in and have an owner who doesn’t have money to put into the club to cover those losses,” Goldberg said on The Liquidator podcast [10 December, 15m 40s].

“The January transfer window is looming, and if you can get £5m or £6m for a player, you’re going to have to take it. You don’t really have any choice. It’s testament to how weak [Guochuan] Lai has made us that we’re potentially ripe for the plucking.”

Unfortunate truth

While it is a good thing West Brom are flying high in the Championship this year, it does mean players will no doubt be on the radar of rival clubs.

The likes of Diangana, John Swift and Brandon Thomas-Asante may be among those attracting admiring glances from elsewhere.

Diangana, as an example, has 18 months to run on his contract at The Hawthorns and could therefore attract a half-decent fee in January.

West Brom

The unfortunate truth is that West Brom will have to bring in money through means other than loans until new owners are on board.

Worryingly, 10 players on the Baggies’ books are due to be out of contract at the end of the campaign [Transfermarkt].

January could therefore be make-or-break in bringing in funds, even if it is the last thing supporters – and Carlos Corberan – want to hear.

In other West Brom news, an Aston Villa supporter could now have a say in the takeover situation at The Hawthorns.
