Jed Wallace reveals what Carlos Corberan has done amid injury crisis at West Brom

Jed Wallace has claimed Carlos Corberan will ease off with the intensity of training at West Brom amid an ongoing injury crisis and packed fixture list.

The Baggies captain suggested that due to the fast-paced nature of the Championship with very little time to recover between games, the focus will be more on staying fit than intense training.

He also insisted that there would be more opportunities handed out to some of the fringe players in the Albion squad as a result of the injuries and increased focus on rotation.

Speaking to Sky Sports [20 December], Wallace revealed: “It’s full on. That’s the nature of the beast in the Championship, games are going to be coming thick and fast. We’ve got really good staff at the club.

“I’d imagine because of the injuries we’ve had, the manager won’t be training us too hard like he normally is. Probably a little bit less training, play a game and then you’ve literally got two days to recover and it’s into the next one. We’ve got plenty of experience in the squad, we know how to deal with that.

“There’ll be an opportunity for players who haven’t been playing as much as they’d like, I’m sure in the coming weeks. We’re hoping to end the season strong after this busy period.”

Changes might be necessary

Given the number of injuries West Brom players are suffering at the moment, changes may be necessary when it comes to the intensity of training sessions and the number of players being rotated in and out of the team from game to game.

The likes of Josh Maja and John Swift have suffered recurring injuries to different severities but having such key players miss large chunks of the season is a blow to the Baggies’ promotion hopes and something they cannot afford to continue with other key players.

Beyond Maja and Swift, Matt Phillips, Daryl Dike and Martin Kelly are all missing with varying degrees of severity, and that list seems to grow each week with another blow suffered.

If the crisis is coming down to the intensity in training, perhaps Corberan will have to reassess his methods at this time of year with the relentless fixture schedule to ensure there is not too much strain being put on his players to result in further absences.

In other West Brom news, the boss has provided a new double-injury update.
