Spotted: Man crucial to West Brom takeover pictured in attendance v Leeds

Sports lawyer David Hinchcliffe was once again seemingly pictured in attendance at The Hawthorns ahead of the Championship clash between West Brom and Leeds United.

Hinchcliffe has previously been spotted at home games in a sign that he is helping to push through a takeover that will see majority shareholder Guochuan Lai bought out.

A West Brom supporter named Joe posted an image of the highly regarded lawyer on his personal Twitter account on Friday (29 December).

Silence

Seeing Hinchcliffe in attendance at The Hawthorns can only be considered a positive. However, it has now been close to two months since he was first spotted at the ground for a game.

As former BBC broadcaster Adrian Goldberg previously pointed out on The Liquidator Podcast [5 November, 15m 25s], Hinchcliffe is working closely with Xu Ke and Mark Miles behind the scenes.

Hinchcliffe is not seeking any sort of stake in the club but is simply there to ensure a deal goes through with no glitches – an area he has plenty of past experience with.

West Brom

This latest sighting of the sports lawyer came on the same day that Nicola Richards, the MP for West Bromwich East, insisted she would support the takeover bid.

It has all been pretty quiet on the takeover front since John Percy reported for The Telegraph on 12 December that Lai was in advanced talks with three parties.

If that report is anything to go by, an agreement would have been reached with one of those parties over exclusivity by now.

There has been no official update from the club, but Hinchcliffe’s presence does at least suggest these talks are progressing.

In other West Brom news, a Sky Sports pundit hit out at an Albion player for something “poor” he saw in the win over Leeds.
