West Brom make January transfer call on Mo Faal on busy day at The Hawthorns

West Brom have announced that forward Mo Faal has joined Walsall on loan for the remainder of the 2023-24 campaign.

Faal was recently recalled from his spell with Doncaster Rovers and will now return to League Two with the Saddlers.

The 20-year-old, under contract at The Hawthorns until July 2025, has also previously had loan stints with Hereford, Telford and Fylde.

The Baggies confirmed Faal’s latest temporary departure on their official website on Monday (15 January), with the deal subject to EFL ratifications.

It follows confirmation that Taylor Gardner-Hickman has joined Bristol City on a permanent deal, with Andi Weimann heading the opposite way.

Good return

The transfer window has well and truly sparked into life for West Brom as two players departed and one arrived in the space of a few hours.

In terms of the Faal loan move, another spell away from The Hawthorns will certainly do his development no harm at such a young age.

Given he is just 20 years old and is still raw, he was never likely to feature for the senior side under Carlos Corberan this season.

West Brom

Faal scored seven goals in 25 appearances for Doncaster in the fourth tier, earning him big praise from manager Grant McCann.

The hope now is that the young attacker can continue on this path and potentially rival for a place in the senior squad next season.

At a time when permanent signings seem unlikely for the Baggies until the takeover uncertainty clears, that would be the next best thing.

In other West Brom news, Don Goodman has reacted to the Baggies’ reported interest in a player from a rival club.
