West Brom transfer news as double January move now on the cards at The Hawthorns

Carlos Corberan may not be granted his wish of signing two new players due to the “extremely limited finances” available to West Brom, according to journalist Lewis Cox.

Albion boss Corberan reiterated after the 2-0 loss at Norwich City on Saturday (20 January) that he is eager to sign another attacker, while midfield cover may also be required due to Jayson Molumby’s injury lay-off.

However, writing for the Express & Star [22 January], Cox reported that may not be possible before the January transfer window closes.

Cox said: “Corberan, having already loaned Andi Weimann this month, planned to sign another winger on loan but now insists Albion must consider midfield depth – and whether their extremely limited finances would allow two additions.”

Difficult situation

Corberan deserves to be backed by the club, but the whole takeover uncertainty means that is just not going to happen.

Weimann was brought in from Bristol City, but that was a case of one in and one out following the departure of Jeremy Sarmiento.

While Corberan has made no secret of his desire to sign another attacker, could a midfielder now be more of a priority in Molumby’s absence?

Ultimately, a lack of goals is holding the Baggies back right now and a player capable of regularly finding the net would make a huge difference.

West Brom

That is easier said than done in the January window, of course, but Premier League teams may be more open to loan deals late in the window.

In West Brom, there is a club competing for promotion to the top flight and with an impressive manager at the helm.

That will work in Albion’s favour, but it could be a nervy wait until the final throes of the window.

Should Corberan not get at least one of those two players he is after through the door at The Hawthorns, you can only imagine just how frustrated he will be.
