Talks underway for Okay Yokuslu to quit West Brom, ‘high probability’ he leaves The Hawthorns in January transfer
There’s a “high probability” Okay Yokuslu quits West Brom this month to re-sign for Trabzonspor, according to Beyaz Gazete.
The Turkish news outlet reported on Wednesday (24 January) that Trabzonspor, who are currently third in the Turkish Super Lig, have opened talks to re-sign the 29-year-old midfielder after he previously played for them between 2015 and 2018.
Taka Gazete echoes the claims but adds that Trabzonspor have a “big obstacle” in the way of completing a deal for Yokuslu because the Turkey midfielder still has another 18 months remaining on his contract at the Baggies.
Still, it is understood that negotiations are being held between Trabzonspor and West Brom. The Telegraph reported on 19 September that player sales were always on the cards this January if a takeover hadn’t been completed.
Pinch of salt
It’s not the first time we’ve heard stories come out of Turkey that have little substance to them.
Kamil Grosicki went to Twitter in August 2020 to rubbish reports linking him with Besiktas when he was at the Albion and who remembers Josef de Souza’s supposed failure to sign for us?
Yokuslu is an international player for Turkey and he’s always going to be linked with a move back there by the Turkish media.

Fortunately, it doesn’t seem like Trabzonspor will be successful in their talks to sign the former Celta Vigo midfielder.
Albion are protected by him having another year and a half remaining on his contract and it doesn’t seem as though Trabzonspor are capable of being able to buy him out of that agreement.
Carlos Corberan cannot afford to lose any players this month, let alone Yokuslu.
However, our club’s financial position means that some of those decisions could be taken out of his hands so you cannot completely rule out a late-gasp exit for the Black Country’s Turkish Delight.
In other West Brom news, the Baggies must act now to avoid one star leaving after a concerning development has emerged.
