West Brom v Birmingham City: Brandon Thomas-Asante terrible as stats emerge

Brandon Thomas-Asante had a game to forget as West Brom picked up a late 1-0 victory against Birmingham City at the Hawthorns.

The Baggies played host to the Blues on Saturday, 3 February, and were undoubtedly the favourites going into the game and picked up the win courtesy of a late Andreas Weimann goal

However, they had a tough time breaking down the visitors and Carlos Corberan will not be impressed with Thomas-Asante’s performance.

According to Sofascore, the 25-year-old had a zero per cent success rate with his duels – losing all six of his attempts in the game.

He lost three ground duels and as many aerially and was undeniably bullied by the Blues defenders.

The striker also completed just six passes during the 62 minutes he was on the pitch and was largely a bystander in the game.

Daryl Dike or Andreas Weimann must start v Ipswich

For the game against Ipswich Town next Saturday, 10 February, Corberan needs to axe Thomas-Asante.

He’s got both Daryl Dike and now Weimann who’s proved that he can be terrific leading the line.

The reason he was brought in during the January window was precisely for that and hopefully, it’s a much better display in front of goal in that game.

Callum Marshall is another option, who joined on loan from West Ham, so Corberan does have his options in the attacking department.

West Brom

Things were already on edge at the Hawthorns due to the crowd trouble against Wolves which led to a controversy so it’s good to see the home side coming through at the end.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies were extremely keen on securing a deal for a Premier League striker in January who made headlines this season.
