West Brom: Andi Weimann speaks out live on talkSPORT about what he did to Birmingham fans
Andreas Weimann has spoken out about what he did to the Birmingham City fans in the West Brom victory at the Hawthorns on Saturday (3 February).
Speaking on talkSPORT on Tuesday (6 February, 06:23pm), Jason Cundy said the Austrian international “caused a bit of a stir” after he was spotted celebrating in front of the Blues fans at the end of the game, having scored a late winner for the Baggies.
The 32-year-old admitted he hasn’t had the best record against Albion’s West Midlands rivals over the past 10 years and that he gets a “little bit of stick” when he comes up against them, but he added that it “felt quite nice” to secure the 1-0 win at The Hawthorns.
“You caused a little bit of a stir at the weekend,” said Cundy. “You’re actually on loan now at West Brom and you scored an 85th-minute winner against Birmingham City. I’m pretty sure that didn’t go down particularly well with Birmingham City fans, did it?”
“No, it didn’t,” replied Weimann. “I haven’t had the best record against them over the last 10 years, so every time I’ve played them, I got a little bit of stick, so it felt quite nice getting that win.”
“Was it a difficult decision to go to West Brom, bearing in mind your history with Aston Villa or was it quite easy?” asked Cundy.
“I think everyone will understand,” said Weimann. “It’s a short career in football and you have to do the best things for yourself. I loved my time at Villa, but at the same time, that’s eight or nine years ago now.”
Andreas Weimann was the difference-maker for West Brom
It was a moment Weimann has probably been dreaming about for years as his late winner earned West Brom the three points and sent the Birmingham fans home unhappy.
It was an opportunity he clearly felt he couldn’t pass up to try and provoke the Blues supporters after they’d given him a bit of stick when he came off the bench.
It was only a harmless bit of fun at the end of the day from the Albion loanee, but he’s probably consigned himself to yet more abuse when he next plays at St Andrew’s.

After the forward had a fairly disappointing first half of the season with Bristol City, he will be hoping his loan spell with Albion can help him get back to his best.
Carlos Corberan will know he can be an important player in his side’s bid for promotion given his vast experience and ability to pop up with a few goals.
