West Brom: Ally Robertson shares new playoff verdict after new signings at The Hawthorns
West Brom are now in a much stronger position in the Championship play-off race after their new January deadline day signings, according to Ally Robertson.
The former Albion player wrote his Express & Star column (7 February) in response to the new signings by Carlos Corberan with the West Brom boss managing to bring in Mikey Johnston, Callum Marshall and Andy Weimann all on loan until the end of the campaign.
Robertson shares that Corberan now has a much stronger weaponry than he’s ever had during his tenure at The Hawthorns and that now puts West Brom in a “promising” position in the play-off chase.
He wrote: “I was pleased to see the club support Carlos Corberan with some attacking reinforcements last month.
“At least we are trying to do something. That is something that supporters will look at and see that at least the club has tried to support Carlos in his mission.
“We know we can’t buy anybody, we have to get loan players in, and we’ve done that – hopefully they have a successful time with us and help us secure the play-offs.
“It helps that we now have players in the building to bring on, especially attackers because we’ve just not had that depth and competition on the bench this season.
“If we can keep that ticking over, keep clear of racking up injuries, then we are in a stronger position.
“It was a promising showing from the bench for our new players in their first outing in front of the home support. When they came on in the game they had to make a positive impression to get the fans on side.”
Strong playoff statement made at The Hawthorns
If there was an area of the West Brom squad that desperately needed addressing in the transfer window it was certainly the attacking department and Corberan now has a plethora of options at his disposal.
The signings of Marshall, Weimann, and Johnston are exciting additions but also ones which could well get the club well over the line come the final playoff positions in May and by then, Corberan will be hoping his squad can steer clear of the injuries that have plagued them for much of the season.
Not only are those new signings a boost for West Brom but they also give a kick up the backside to the players already at Corberan’s disposal to raise their levels and that’s why the Baggies are in a much stronger position than they were previously.
It will certainly be intriguing to see how the Spaniard mixes and matches the options he now currently possesses given he’s never been in such a luxurious position as West Brom manager.

It is certainly a test of his coaching and man-management but given the work he’s already done with so little, he will most definitely be trusted by the West Brom hierarchy and the club fans with much.
The race for the playoffs is now well and truly on and it is safe to say Corberan’s men are looking like strong favourites.
