West Brom: Che Adams development emerges in Southampton injury update ahead of Albion clash

Southampton could be boosted by the return of both Flynn Downes and Che Adams when they face West Brom in the Championship, according to Russell Martin.

Carlos Corberan’s side will welcome the Saints to The Hawthorns on Friday 16 February as they look to extend their winning run to four matches in all competitions having beaten Cardiff City 2-0 last time out to maintain their playoff push.

Southampton saw a 25-match unbeaten run come to an end against Bristol City on Tuesday (13 February), but manager Martin has hinted that both Downes and Adams hope to be involved against the Baggies, having missed the trip to Ashton Gate.

As quoted by the Daily Echo on Thursday (15 February) he said: “Both will be very close. Whether or not they will be involved, we will have to wait and see.

“They are both recovering nicely so we hope they will be involved. If not, they will not be very far away at all.”

West Brom can boost playoff credentials against Southampton

West Brom performed extremely well in the Championship this season given their off-field distractions, but the Baggies’ promotion credentials will be truly tested when they face Southampton on Friday as Martin’s Saints look to get back to winning ways.

Albion were impressive once again against Cardiff and were excellent value for their three points, but now they have to face one of the division’s best sides with potentially two of their best players returning to the fold at The Hawthorns.

Carlos Corberan has been praised for the job he’s done at West Brom

If Corberan’s side play like they did against Leeds United over the festive period, they are able to beat any side that they face. They have shown that they can raise their game against the division’s best teams and they will have to do the same yet again.

It would be helpful if neither Downes nor Adams were fit enough to feature on Friday, but if Albion want to return to the Premier League this term, they are going to have to pick up points against the teams in and around them.
