Carlos Corberan must recall Semi Ajayi in West Brom v Plymouth after 2-0 Southampton loss
West Brom slumped to a disappointing defeat to Southampton on Friday (16 February), which will have infuriated Carlos Corberan.
Not only did the Albion lose out on home soil, but they also lost out to a club that is also in the Championship promotion race.
The Saints ran out 2-0 winners at The Hawthorns, and are currently third in the table after the latest round of action, with the Baggies in fifth.
Consistency has been a real issue for Corberan and his players in recent times, with the Midlands club with a draw, win and loss in their last three matches respectively.
The man in the dugout will be disappointed by the lack of goals scored by his attackers at The Hawthorns, but the two goals conceded will have perhaps angered him more.
Ajayi watches on for West Brom
Cedric Kipre and Erik Pieters were given the nod at centre-back, with Semi Ajayi named on the bench after returning from Africa Cup of Nations duty.
The Nigeria defender will still be heartbroken after losing the final to Ivory Coast, but a return to club action as soon as possible could have been beneficial for both him and the Baggies. Instead, Corberan, who was sent off early in the game, decided to leave Ajayi on the bench for the entire match.
The centre-back is in the form of his life right now after helping guide Nigeria to the Africa Cup of Nations final, meaning he should be thrown back into Corberan’s starting XI as soon as possible.

It wasn’t the case at The Hawthorns on Friday, but his manager now has the chance to right that wrong when the Albion travel to Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday (20 February).
