West Brom: Tony Brown shares two-word message about ex-Albion players currently at Aston Villa
Aston Villa and Unai Emery have signed “too many” former West Brom players in recent transfer windows, according to Tony Brown
Plymouth Argyle defender Lino Sousa is the latest former academy product from The Hawthorns to make the switch to Villa Park when he left Arsenal for Emery’s side in the final days of the January window, before heading to Home Park on loan.
The 19-year-old wasn’t the only former Baggie to make the switch last month either, with Morgan Rogers joining Emery’s ranks from Middlesbrough and Brown has made his thoughts clear on such transfers with a simple two-word message.
Speaking on BBC Radio West Midlands on Tuesday (20 February, 20:10) he simply said: “Too many.”
Aston Villa keep picking up West Brom talent
While Brown’s comment was quite clearly tongue-in-cheek, it will be frustrating for West Brom supporters to see a number of talents that they had on their books plying their trade with their Midlands rivals currently.
Sousa wasn’t particularly impressive at Home Park in Tuesday (20 February) night’s clash and was hooked after only 59 minutes having been given a torrid time by both Jed Wallace and Tom Fellows on the wings.

But in an alternate world, the teenager and Rogers could be lining up for Carlos Corberan week in and week out, had Albion managed to keep their young stars away from the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal.
Hopefully, West Brom will have now learnt their lesson and will do all that they can to keep the next Sousa or Rogers in their ranks, especially after Fellows has shown just how valuable academy talent can be to the first team.
