West Brom: Supercomputer shares new play-off prediction ahead of QPR showdown

West Brom have an 89 per cent chance of finishing in the Championship playoff places this season following their win over Coventry City, according to Opta Analyst.

In a new prediction from the Opta supercomputer shared on X (4 March) Carlos Corberan’s side no longer have a chance of winning automatic promotion back to the Premier League this season and instead will have to fight for a playoff place.

The Baggies’ most likely finish this season will see them sit fifth in the table, but they do have a 4.5 per cent chance of finishing higher than that, which would mean that the second leg of their playoff semi-final tie would be played at The Hawthorns.

However, Corberan’s side can’t take their foot off of the gas now as there is still an 11 per cent chance that they will miss out on the top-six in its entirety and will therefore be destined for another season of Championship football.

Will West Brom finish in the playoffs under Carlos Corberan this season?

West Brom and the other teams in the Championship are truly approaching the business end of the season now and Corberan will know that his side can confirm their place in the playoff places if they maintain their good form in the coming weeks.

Albion have shown throughout this season that they can beat any side in the Championship. They were excellent in their win over Leeds United over the festive period and have been in excellent form ever since.

Perhaps more importantly, however, they have taken points off of the teams around them in the top six race whether that be through a valuable point against Hull City at the MKM Stadium or a big win last time out over Coventry City.

Hopefully, Corberan and his side won’t let their standards slip in the final weeks of the season and will continue to boost their chances of a top-six finish. Their January recruitment seems to have given them an added spark in recent weeks.
