West Brom early team news v QPR: Conor Townsend ruled out as potential replacement named

West Brom boss Carlos Corberan has confirmed defender Conor Townsend will miss their clash against QPR.

The Baggies’ left-back has a hamstring injury and will also have to sit out of their trip to Huddersfield Town on Sunday.

Townsend, 31, has made 36 appearances in all competitions this season and has chipped in with three assists.

In this latest update regarding his condition, Corberan has told the official club website (5 March): “Unfortunately we are going to be without Conor Townsend.

“In the last game he was feeling a little bit tight and there is a small injury in his hamstring. He’s going to be out of the next two games.

“We still have three players who can fill the left-back position. Adam Reach is one, Erik Pieters is another and Pipa is the final one.”

Carlos Corberan provides West Brom injury update on Conor Townsend

Townsend’s injury is a blow for West Brom and his influence on the left flank of defence will be missed. However, as Corberan has alluded to, they have other useful options in his position ready to step in like Adam Reach, Erik Pieters or Pipa.

The former Hull City and Scunthorpe United man has been a consistent performer for the Baggies since joining them back in 2018.

He has been a decent servant to the Midlands outfit and has played 203 games altogether, scoring four goals.

His left foot is a threat from set-pieces but Corberan will have to think outside the box for their two upcoming matches as he looks to keep the Baggies’ momentum going in their quest for promotion to the Premier League.

West Brom’s fixtures against QPR and Huddersfield Town are tricky ones as they are playing two sides who are fighting for their lives at the bottom end of the table.
