West Brom: Tony Brown raves after Alex Palmer moment v QPR, ‘game-changer’
Tony Brown has described Alex Palmer as a “game-changer” after he saved a penalty in the 2-2 draw with QPR at Loftus Road.
Carlos Corberan’s side travelled to London for a crunch Championship clash with QPR on Wednesday evening (6 March).
Having fallen behind when Sam Field put the hosts ahead in the 17th minute, two quick-fire goals from Mikey Johnston and Grady Diangana put the Baggies in control until Field struck once more late on to snatch a point for QPR.
After Adam Reach gave a penalty away in the 51st minute, Palmer spared his defender’s blushes by denying Michael Frey from the spot, and Brown believes this was a defining moment in the match.
While speaking live on BBC Radio West Midlands (6 March), West Brom’s all-time leading goalscorer had the following to say, “The penalty save – that is the game-changer for Albion.
“Alright, they threw the lead away, but it is still a vital point, you never know come the end of the season how important this may be.”
Alex Palmer might have helped push Carlos Corberan and West Brom toward the Premier League
While plenty of Baggies supporters will be disappointed after the clash with QPR and feel as though it is two points dropped, the more optimistic fans will suggest this is a good point.
Travelling away to a side fighting for their lives in the Championship is never an easy task, and QPR certainly provided plenty of fight on Wednesday evening.
In truth, although they led for the vast majority of the match, Corberan’s side never looked in control and will perhaps consider themselves lucky to even leave with a point.
Most of the momentum at Loftus Road was with the home side and had Palmer not denied Frey from the spot, QPR might have gone on to claim all three points.

It could be a crucial moment that West Brom come to look back on at the end of the season, depending on how their pursuit of a return to the Premier League finishes.
