West Brom: Jed Wallace shares Celtic transfer admission in Mikey Johnston verdict live on air
West Brom captain Jed Wallace has admitted that Celtic must have some “unbelievable” wingers in their squad if they were willing to let Mikey Johnston join the Baggies in January.
The Ireland international joined the ranks at The Hawthorns in the January transfer window and has hit the ground running under Carlos Corberan, scoring six goals and laying on a single assist in 10 Championship appearances.
Wallace has insisted that the 24-year-old has been a brilliant addition to the Albion changing room but did admit that he is worried Johnston’s excellent form may push up his price tag ahead of the summer transfer window.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Tuesday (26 March, 8:54) he said: “He’s been unbelievable, as soon as he came in the door he settled straight away. I think he scored in his first start against Cardiff after about 30 seconds and he hasn’t really looked back, to be honest.
“Celtic must have some wingers if he can’t get a game for them at the moment. He’s been brilliant for us. When you’re playing for the big clubs in Scotland they’ve got 10 men behind the ball, the Championship’s a bit more open.
“He’s got real pace and when the game is a bit more open, it probably suits him and he’s scored some unbelievable goals, he’s having a goal-of-the-season competition on his own. I did tell him he needs to slow that down a little bit because I think his price tag is going up every game.”
Will West Brom be able to sign Mikey Johnston permanently in the summer transfer window?
If you asked any West Brom fan, or likely Corberan, they would almost certainly want to sign Johnston permanently this summer as he has been a complete revelation since he arrived in the Midlands in January.
Whether or not the Baggies will be able to pay the fee required to secure the 24-year-old’s signature at the end of the season remains to be seen, but his price tag will have only gone up because of his recent displays at The Hawthorns.

Some close to Celtic have suggested that the Hoops won’t be in a rush to bring Johnston back to Parkhead this summer and that could well open the door for Albion to swoop in and agree a permanent deal.
If the winger has enjoyed his time at The Hawthorns as much as Wallace suggested in his interview on talkSPORT, agreeing personal terms with the Celtic loanee shouldn’t be too hard for the Baggies.
